 Sarah Newton MP
Sarah grew up in this constituency where she married Alan 20 years ago. They have three children. She is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts and has undertaken a wide range of voluntary activity including being a Member of Falmouth Tall Ships Association; Member of the Children’s Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal Board; Member of Falmouth Rotary Club; Friend of St Petrocs and Truro Homeless Action Group, a Co-director of the Riverside Shelter for Homeless in New York City; a governor of a LEA school and Deputy Chair of Governors at the Sir James Henderson International School in Milan; Chairman of the Friends of Cannizaro Park.
Sarah was a member of the Student Union Executive at King’s College, London University, Councillor for the London Borough of Merton, Vice-Chairman and Chairman of Wimbledon Conservative Association.
Sarah’s Experience
Recently Sarah was Director of the International Longevity Centre in the UK. An international ‘think and do tank’ that works with policy makers across all sectors to develop pragmatic and positive responses to the ageing population. In the 1990s she was a Director of Age Concern England. Before turning her attention to building awareness of the issues affecting older people and their families Sarah started her career in marketing with IBIS, Citibank and American Express.
Campaigning in Truro & Falmouth
Sarah is campaigning to ensure that the NHS in Cornwall receives its fair share of funding. She locally led a successful campaign against government proposals that would have stopped GPs from dispensing medicines. She is working hard to ensure that where specialist cancer services are safe and have the support of patients and GPs that they are not removed from Cornwall.
Sarah is committed to ensuring the viable future of Falmouth Harbour. She is working to ensure Cornwall leads the way in sustainable energy and increased food production.
She is in regular contact with Councillors, Police officers, local health officials and front-line staff to discuss the wide-range of issues which are brought to her attention by constituents.
