Friday, 27 January, 2012

Truro and Penwith College’s growing reputation for construction and engineering courses looks set to be enhanced, as it has secured £2 million of capital investment from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Truro and Penwith College had applied for an Enhanced Renewal Grant to help fund a major extension of their Construction and Automotive Engineering facilities. With this grant now approved, the College will be able to use the funds to extend new buildings to accommodate additional Construction and Engineering teaching on site. The investment will also allow the College to enhance the facilities it provides for science teaching, and for supporting pupils with learning disabilities.

The grant to Truro and Penwith College is part of the Government’s wider commitment to invest heavily in further education, with over £200 million having been invested in colleges across the UK since 2010.

Mrs Newton, who made representations to minsters in support of the grant application, commented:

“I am delighted that Truro and Penwith College is to benefit from the Government’s further education investment programme. It is excellent news that this additional funding will be used to support construction and engineering teaching at the College, enhancing facilities that give our young people the chance to acquire skills that will be highly valued by local employers.”
